If Pete Hegseth Had Any Honor, He Would Resign
(New York Times) Im a former Army JAG officer (an Army lawyer). Ive helped investigate numerous allegations of classified information spillages, and Ive never even heard of anything this egregious a secretary of defense intentionally using a civilian messaging app to share sensitive war plans without even apparently noticing a journalist was in the chat. There is not an officer alive whose career would survive a security breach like that. It would normally result in instant consequences (relief from command, for example) followed by a comprehensive investigation and, potentially, criminal charges. Federal law makes it a crime when a person through gross negligence removes information relating to the national defense from its proper place of custody or delivered to anyone in violation of his trust, or to be lost, stolen, abstracted or destroyed.
Trump stands by NSA Waltz despite disclosing military plans, saying he's 'learned a lesson'

Trump's comments mark his first substantive remarks since the story from The Atlantic broke, which detailed how journalist Jeffrey Goldberg was inadvertently added to a group chat on a private messaging app where plans for military strikes in Yemen were discussed.

Long waits, waves of calls, web crashes: Social Security is breaking down
(Washington Post) The Social Security Administration website crashed four times in 10 days this month, blocking millions of retirees and disabled Americans from logging in to their online accounts because the servers were overloaded. In the field, office managers have resorted to answering phones at the front desk as receptionists because so many employees have been pushed out. But the agency no longer has a system to monitor customers' experience with these services, because that office was eliminated as part of the cost-cutting efforts led by Elon Musk.
