House Democrats on Wednesday slammed Russell Vought over his tenure as acting director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), heralding his upcoming departure. It marked Voughts first appearance before Congress in his role leading the consumer watchdog agency, which has faced a tumultuous stretch in President Trumps second term.
Vought is reportedly poised to leave the CFPB in August, as his term as acting director comes to an end. He separately continues to serve as director of the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB).
Sir, Im glad youre leaving, Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-N.Y.) said at Wednesdays House Financial Services Committee hearing.
It was a sentiment echoed by several Democrats, who raised concerns about Voughts stewardship of the agency. I too am glad that youre leaving, Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.) said. Sadly, your harm will remain for generations to come. I have every reason to believe that history will judge you harshly.
