There was a huge element of lying and self delusion in the democratic side. We thought we had a shot! But-- Biden was disliked even loathed - unfairly, but there it was. The election was largely decided early in the year I'm afraid and that debate and Trump's assassination attempt sealed it.

But ... but there was still a chance. Just a narrow one probably. But that campaign just couldn't quite do it. Played too safe. Thought it could run 2022 over again when it turned out that was all over. Was that bad judgment or bad guesswork? Bad consulting? I am sorry to have to say a lot goes back to the candidates. Kamala is intrinsically a cautious and meticulous person (we know her well in CA). This was the moment for a rampager and shoot for the moon gambler (are there any of these on the Demo side?) Walz was part of that but needed Kamala to be a YOLO candidate. Just my swag.
