Mitt Romney reveals he personally urged Biden administration to preemptively pardon Donald Trump [View all]

Former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney revealed Monday night that he called the White House during the Biden administration when Special Counsel Jack Smith was investigating Donald Trump to urge President Joe Biden to preemptively pardon him.

“I called a member of the White House, one of the senior advisers to President Biden. And I said, if the Justice Department decides to indict President Trump, I hope President Biden will immediately eliminate that, and that he will provide a pardon immediately. Why? Number one, I don’t want the anger and the hate and the vitriol. But number two: We just can’t begin to be prosecuting political opponents,” Romney said during a conversation with CNN’s Dana Bash at an event hosted by Drew University in Morristown, New Jersey.

“Pardoning at that point would have been a way to make that very clear,” added Romney.

“What did they say back to you?” asked Bash.

Considering all the indictments, trials, convictions, etc., pursuing trump didn't help us. Think both Biden and Garland Silent Type Tuesday #13
Prosecution was the right thing to do. We have never had a President try to violently overturn an election, on TV. SunSeeker Tuesday #19
Unfortunately, didn't work for us, unless you believe trump would have won by 10 points without the indictments, etc. Silent Type Tuesday #22
Ridiculous. Trump won the Popular vote by just 1.5% Wiz Imp Tuesday #35

Relying on courts to determine election by convicting trump is the mistake, IMO. Silent Type Tuesday #40
We were not using courts to "determine an election." We were trying to convict a criminal. SunSeeker Tuesday #41
Sorry, we thought he would be eliminated by courts. The right wing talk is trying to convince people Silent Type Tuesday #44
