The Opium Wars (both of them) 1839-1842 and then 1856-1860 were fought between the BRITISH (as proxy for the East India Tea Company) and the Qing Dynasty.

Entire encyclopedic tomes have been written on the subject.

Do your homework and read a few. Leave the US out of this, it wasn't an American incursion.
