In the late 60's and thruout the '70's, in Washington state, pot was illegal but the law not enforced for casual and discreet use.
I used to subscribe to High Times, esp. liked the fact the magazine had ( still has???) a centerfold pic of pot, like the last one in your post.

Legalization was going so well until this illegitimate orange turd showed up in the punch bowl.
