the main reason for having it, while recreational usage is available, is to save money -

The state collects a 16% excise tax on recreational sales in addition to the standard sales tax; medical patients pay roughly 6% in state sales tax. Local jurisdictions charge an additional 2% or so for all marijuana sales.

So, 10% is a credible savings, but total cost of the card is about $400 after the Drs. referral and the state fee.
THAT MEANS that you would need to buy $4000 worth of pot before you start saving money.And since I smoke the $100 per oz varieties, I'd have to buy 40 ozs a yr. to break even. I smoke a lot of pot, but not that much.
