Bishop Christopher Senyonjo - LGBT rights voice in Uganda [View all]

Brief Wiki entry - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christopher_Senyonjo

Christopher Senyonjo (b. 1932) is a clergyman and LGBT rights activist from Uganda. He studied at the Union Theological Seminary in 1963, and was ordained into the priesthood in 1964 in the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City.[1]

He served in the Church of Uganda and was elevated to bishop in 1974. In 2002, his functions of vesting and laying on of hands were revoked by the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda on behalf of the House of Bishops of Uganda.

He consecrated a bishop for the Charismatic Church of Uganda; and in 2006, the Church of Uganda responded by completely dissociating itself from Ssenyonjo and stating that he was no longer a bishop.[2] Ssenyonjo contested this. [3]

He was included in Huffington Post religion's 10 most influential people of 2010. [4]
