FYI, the FBI’s UCR informs us that in 2011, an estimated 14,612 persons were murdered in the United States. http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/ucr/crime-in-the-u.s/2011/crime-in-the-u.s.-2011/violent-crime/murder
