a two-year-old died because of this adult's unconscionably criminal negligence.

That's the true lede for this story . . .

The balance of the tale should be a recounting of the adult being handcuffed and whisked away to jail, there to await arraignment for their criminal behavior.

On edit: There was nothing accidental about any of this. Failure to secure a firearm is not an accident, it is a willful rejection of proper behavior.
