I was talking to our new fellow-- she's not only a woman, but African American. Our 2nd AA fellow. Our 3rd female fellow. She's doing her fellowship in transplant surgery. I mentioned how women were making 50% of medical students, but the power disparity started showing immediately in fields like surgery in Fellowships, Attendings, tenures in schools-- any positions of perceived power. She said "oh you have no idea"

We didn't have a chance to talk much, but her fellowship will be two years-- I'm looking forward to snatching some good conversation when I can. She'll have a very interesting and unique perspective.

I am happy to report that we now have two female Attendings In our transplant surgical team. They kick ass too.
