(53,717 posts)I am not someone who has a problem with most words. There are some I don't use, and some I don't want to see. I hate the c word, because it denigrates half the population, but I see there is leeway if you are in a pub in England. I don't use b* here, but I sometimes do IRL. (The dumpster one, though. That was just someone with problems with women trying to slam and dehumanize women in general. That was designed to insult, which I pointed it out in ATA, but I am guessing from experience that will die an unanswered death.)
On the other hand, I don't see the "brilliance" in RP everyone is touting; I usually find him pretty droningly rant-y, so I don't care if someone hides him because he swears. So I didn't have strong feelings either way with this. I didn't engage when the discussion was about whether certain words should be used.
But when the crap started in bb's thread, with people telling her she shouldn't be allowed to state HER opinion about the whole thing, it really pissed me off. And the way it deteriorated from there to now, where a lot of people's hatred is now saturating their writing, has been astonishingly ugly.
I love the "aftermath" posts, though. The worst offenders brushing themselves off, and saying "we all need to stop" when they were among the only ones that "need to stop." They're telling themselves, "It's OK I did it. Everyone did" when everyone didn't. It's like we are watching them wake up after a bender.
