. . . Who has posted essays over on the OnlySky website. She also has a site, Roll to Disbelieve, which has a section titled, First Century Fridays", in which she discusses the fact that the Romans in the first century ( CE, "Common Era" ) were a very literate people with the government keeping excellent administrative records.

She points out that we have a lot of extant written material from many first century writers, and -- outside of the Bible itself -- Jesus never gets a mention. The existence of Pontius Pilate can be attributed to in the historical record, but nothing about the "dead rising from the graves" or other dramatic events illustrated in one of the Gospels.*




* Honestly can't be arsed to look up which Gospel or the exact passages, but a whole bunch of stuff supposedly went down when Jesus died, and some of it would have made it into some bureaucrat's report if it had been real.
