24. When floor coverings attack...

Beware! That floor covering may be an alien life form, just waiting to eat you. As exposed in the 1964 motion picture "The Creeping Terror."

The producer couldn't afford a regular monster, so he literally used a piece of moldy old carpet for his monster. It's "victims" writhed around and pretended it was consuming them, as shown in the photo below. "Creeping Terror" is considered one of the worst movies ever made, and got a well-deserved thumping from the MST3K crew.

The creepiest part of "Creeping Terror" had nothing to do with aliens or monsters. It was filmed in 1964 at the old Spahn Movie Ranch in northwest Los Angeles. If Spahn Ranch sounds familiar, that's because it attracted some new tenants later in the 1960s...

The assistant director was stuntman Randy Starr, who later achieved notoriety by providing Charles Manson with the gun used in the Sharon Tate murders.
