Most folks think of the Vikings as marauders, which some of them were. But they were also explorers and traders. They had contacts with the Byzantines, southern Europe, England and North America and were a world power probably into the early 17th century. Most people forget they had, until England took them, colonies in the US in New York and west of Philadelphia.
