Also, a previous advanced civ would have depleted the easily accessible metal deposits. They wouldn’t be there for us to use now.

The only way I can see that such a civilization could have existed without fairly easy detection is if it was hundreds of millions of years ago, such that tectonics would have buried most everything and somewhat refreshed surface deposits of metals.
