Sorry, Orleans, that you didn't have such a good experience with this movie. I think I'll pass on it for now and maybe rent the DVD when it comes out.
A friend saw it this weekend. Here's what he wrote:
Took my family to see Heaven is for Real. an amazing true story of a 4 year old boy who had an out of body experience and went to heaven. He described in great detail who he saw, angels, and deceased family members whom he had never met. The movie reflects directly the book. An extraordinary read. Trisha gave me the book suggesting I read it before seeing the movie.
The boys name is Colton Burpo. He is now 14. One of the most extraordinary things that happened to him in heaven was meeting his sister who died in a miscarriage before he was born. Colton never knew of that story but hos mother confirmed this when Colton asked her about a baby that "died in her tummy."
I read the book. I was a little put off by the references to Jesus, as I am not a practicing Christian. A friend, however, explained it to me like this: The Other Side communicates messages in the language that the person best understands.
So if the person is a believer in Jesus, it's Jesus they see.
