Western medicine is good for some things (if you find the right practitioners, which Kate and Brad appear to have done) and not so good for others.
One major thing it is good for is buying time when somebody's body is in crisis. Spiritual and natural healing can happen quickly or it can take some time. So buying time allows for the other modalities to take effect.
