It is a very colorful allegory created from stories told by the residents of the town and painted, with direction and participation of the artist, by town members, including many children. A woman wrote a letter to the mayor to saying it "didn’t represent the town" and it should be taken down or painted over because it "looks like something painted by devil worshippers" and will "bring unwanted types" to town. She followed up her letter with a speech in puplic forum to the town board. She made no excuses for the fact that her "Baptist upbringing" is what informed her opinion. I don't know the outcome of the dispute.
