I shot a medium-sized doe to add to the small buck I got earlier in the season. Stews, chili, meatballs, and steaks are already finding their way through Austin's sewer system.

Can you legally take road-kill in your state? Can't in Texas, but where I grew up in Florida, it was okay.

When in Uvalde on the last day, and leaving the pasture, we came across an axis (deer of India) which had hung herself up in the goat fence. I was at first startled to see my hunting buddy get out of the car to rescue the frantic deer. He grabbed her bodily from behind, and I twisted the fencing to free her leg. She took off, no worse for wear. Probably confused: Are these two-legged things out to kill us or save us?
