Any Decorah (bald eagle) nest cam watchers here? [View all]
I'm having trouble understanding these birds.
They keep bringing food to the nest, and barely eating it. Just today there must be a half dozen fish, a fairly large bird, and a pregnant furry mammal, all less than half eaten, littering the nest. I don't know if they had a spat and now one is trying to make-up, or what, but it's disturbing to see.
I can't tell if it is one or both doing it.
Last night, there must've been 3 fish deliveries (trout), that flopped around the nest for like an hour, even after having parts of it eaten.
And the waterfowl, decent sized, the parent just ate the head (and fed the chick) and left the body in the nest, right next to the baby, and it was a freezing night! Can't imagine all that dead flesh helping keep things warm.
Then this morning, the worst, one brings in a (thankfully already dead and headless) furry critter in and upon opening the abdomen, reveals two or three fetuses, which are only partially eaten (and fed).
This seems like really odd behavior. Anyone watching?
