Nissan recalls 165K newer vehicles due to risk they could turn off while in use [View all]

While not yet reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Nissan says it will recall about 165,000 newer vehicles due to the risk they could turn off while in motion.

The automaker confirmed the recall of the 2017-18 Juke, Frontier, Sentra, Versa, Versa Note, Micra, NV, NV200 and the NV taxi in the U.S. and Canada to both Consumer Reports and CNET's Roadshow. Nissan's Juke was discontinued after 2017, and its Micra is not available stateside.

Nissan tells Consumer Reports that affected vehicles equipped with a mechanical key could be at risk to a defect that causes it to "potentially move out of the 'ON' position" while in use.

The automaker says it is not aware of any incidents related to the recall, and that this measure is simply "out of an abundance of caution."

While the NHTSA had not yet issued a recall, Transport Canada issued a recall of the affected vehicles and advised owners to remove everything from their ignition key ring. It's also worth noting that Transport Canada reports that if one of the affected vehicles were to crash, there could be an increased risk of the air bags not deploying.

To search active recalls, use the NHTSA's website to search your 17-character VIN at this link: https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls VIN numbers are typically located under the driver's side windshield, or along the inside of the doors behind the seat or under the steering wheel.
