4 SciFi movies I've come to see differently in the last decade [View all]
...Somehow they're seeming less like fiction to me these days;
Alien- Corporation decodes an alien message warning of an extremely dangerous life form. Must exploit for commercial potential. Sends in unsuspecting freighter crew in order to maximize profit. Holds only survivor responsible when alien destroys ship and cargo.
They Live- Earth is secretly being run by aliens who are exploiting it for short-term profit. 99% of earth's population have no idea this is going on because of a hypnotic signal being broadcast from television sets which keeps them ignorant and complacent. The 1% who are in league with the aliens all get rich.
Outland- Mining colony on Io is experiencing unexplained psychotic behavior among the workers. It is discovered that drugs are being sold to the miners which increase productivity but cause insanity with prolonged use. It it later discovered that the colony manager manager is head of the drug ring, and the corporation looks the other way because he is breaking all productivity records.
Rollerball- Corporations have replaced all the world's governments. The population are kept complacent with comforts and gladiatorial sports which are designed to illustrate the futility of individual effort.
Sorry if I dropped any spoilers... They're all pretty old movies.
