'The son of an Egyptian ambassador and the grandson of the first president of the Egyptian Senate who helped draft that country's first constitution, M. Cherif Bassiouni had unyielding principles and a pedigree and personality that opened doors.

But it was seven months under house arrest in Cairo for protesting human rights abuses that sealed his commitment to fighting for accountability and rule of law around the world. He eventually became a chief architect of the International Criminal Court at The Hague.'>>>
