My grandmother was still alive then. The television coverage was riveting.

I walked, from central Alexandria, over to the scene that night. No, I don’t know what possessed me to do that. No one blocked my access. No doubt they weren’t expecting company. There was a Renault LeCar on the bridge.

That and the fatal Metro accident made that a bad day for DC.
