The Landlady made her wonderful fried chicken in her grandpa’s very heavy cast iron frying pan. The secret is she adds some bacon grease to the oil for flavor. She also double flours the pieces before frying. Delicious.

We also had mashed potatoes with chicken gravy and a salad of an heirloom tomato with red onion, garlic, olive oil and Balsamic vinegar.

On this Memorial Day, I’m humbled and grateful for the men and women who gave their lives for our freedoms.
