Russian Dressing [View all]

I’m a big fan of the Reuben Sandwich. I like to use pastrami instead of corned beef so technically it’s called a Rachel. I use pastrami, Swiss (yes, I know it isn’t Kosher), and sauerkraut on rye or marble rye bread with caraway seeds, and Russian dressing.

I first looked for Russian dressing in the stores and could only find one and it had garbage ingredients so I was forced to make my own. After some experimentation, drawing on a few recipes from the internet, I came up with this:

Russian Dressing

1C mayo
1C ketchup
2t Worcester
2T horse radish
2T lemon juice
1T garlic powder
½ t black pepper
2t onion powder or flakes
3 - ½ t of one or more of the following:
• paprika
• hot paprika
• smoked paprika
• chipotle powder
• berbere powder
For example I usually use ½ t each of smoked paprika, chipotle and berbere
C = cup, T = tablespoon, t = teaspoon

I’m very happy with this recipe but none of the above is written in stone so feel free to experiment.
