5. Actually Nixon DID fire Mueller's counterpart during Watergate

It was the famous "Saturday Night Massacre," when he fired special prosecutor Archibald Cox. It didn't help him in the end, but we didn't have Mitch McTurtle leading the Senate then, or Lyin' Ryan as Speaker, either.

I think the Republican move to see what Mueller's evidence is (itself, already unprecedented) is an effort to pass on to the White House what Mueller has amassed so far, and maybe more important, an indication of where he's going with what he has. I think that if Mueller is seen as a threat to anyone close enough to Trump to bargain immunity from prosecution in exchange for solidly incriminating evidence against Trump, his family, or Pence, THEN they will toss him. As long as they THINK they're safe, he will be allowed to "play." The moment they feel truly threatened, they will act.

We can only hope they miscalculate and act too late. They just might. They could well be arrogant enough to think Mueller's "got nuthin'" and then realize he had plenty, but too late for them to realize this from anywhere but the defendant's box in the court trial.
