new med in February [View all]

Hello all,

Hope all of you are having a good 2018 so far or will soon! As I said last year, my doctor is now starting me on an MAO inhibitor, Selegiline, which he is dispensing as a transdermal patch to be applied to my skin. The benefit of transdermal as opposed to oral is that it lowers the possibility of a hypertensive crisis if I accidentally eat anything with tyramine in it. The Selegiline was his idea and not at my insistence.

Anyway, in February I start taking it. First, my Bupropion and Venlafaxine have to be tapered down carefully, and then I have to be totally antidepressant-free for two weeks (a "wash-out" period) because you cannot mix other antidepressants with Selegiline.

At any rate, wish me luck. Hopefully it will be worth all this hassle. All the best to all of you.

Steve
