Regarding your question about blood spots, I just received a holiday letter from a longtime friend. She has been diagnosed with a myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), a bone marrow disorder that causes problems with blood cells. She said she developed blood spots in her right eye and hasn't been able to drive for months. I think, from looking it up, that her condition is considered pre-cancerous.

Don't know whether this info is of any use, but hope it helps you somehow.
