Woodstock followed years of assassinations, riots in the streets, including the Chicago police riot during the '68 political convention.

and Viet Nam. VIet NAm. VIET NAM.

Now comes three days of 100,000 people getting together. Young people and the conditions at the festival continued to deteriorate. Rain, mud, inadequate services and food.

And the kids got along.

I've made a few trips to Woodstock and Bethel over the years. The area is scenically wonderful, Woodstock is a bit hokey as merchants try to latch on to the nostalgia of '69. It isn't much of a tourist trap but still fun to drive to.

But in the back of my mind is a sadness of what our nation has come to..... Greed is good, followed by two Iraqs, one Afghanistan and whatever else we don't know about.

Woodstock was looked at as a promise.

Then came Nixon, followed by,....
