Disney Polynesian Resort tourists were served bugs in food and got sick, lawsuit says [View all]

Food served at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort was contaminated with “dozens” of live insects, and four South Florida tourists became “extremely sick,” according to a lawsuit filed last week.

The Broward County plaintiffs — Cynthia Walker, Jeoffrey Walker and Brittany Walker Figueroa, who is also suing on behalf of her child — sued Walt Disney Parks and Resorts doing business as Oasis Bar & Grill as well as Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows Condominium Association for damages in excess of $15,000.

“After consuming multiple lettuce wraps [Walker Figueroa] felt something crawling inside of her mouth and removed what appeared to be a small green object that had legs and was moving,” the lawsuit states.

A Disney spokeswoman responded to the suit with a written statement: “Enjoying high-quality meals in clean and safe restaurants is an important part of a Walt Disney World Resort vacation. We do not believe the claimed illnesses were a result of the guests’ dining experiences, and we will defend against these allegations in court.”
