Woman in Estes Park Colorado, knocked down by elk and no one assisted [View all]
I was looking at articles on elk in the news and came across this story. A woman in Estes Park in Colorado got too close to an elk and it came at her, pushing her to the ground. There were a lot of people around, but it was too risky to intervene. There are warnings about not getting close to elk, and that is the main moral of the story, but tourists continue to get too close to these wild elk. Eventually a pickup truck came and pushed away the elk and the woman was okay.
But there were a lot of comments about how, since women's liberation, there is no more chivalry, because women didn't want chivalry. And many men made comments of how they wouldn't risk helping a woman in the current day. Actually I wonder if these same men would have intervened at any time in history, putting themselves at risk.
It highlights though the thinking of some men who are so threatened by women being equals that they would not care at all if the woman was injured. Kind of an attitude of, since you are no longer dependent on me, I won't lift a finger to assist you for anything.
Here is the blog by the man who thinks men shouldn't care about helping women.
