3. I was hoping beyond hope his hateful rhetoric already served its purpose

The right thinks they have a winner in its anti-transgender rhetoric. It’ll turn out of steam at some point, but not before many lives are ruined. It’s up to the rest us to take the gas out of it in whatever ways we can. Remember this when you hear any anti-trans or other bigoted speech. If it doesn’t put you in danger, please say something. You’d be surprised how some family and friends who are constantly being enticed by bigotry will respond if they know how hateful and damaging their views are. If not, we may see the next four years erase decades of progress in more areas than this. To those who are not affected by or care about this issue, you’ll just have to guess whether you are in the next group the attacks will focus on. Soon the utility of anti trans hate will dry up and they’ll have to move on.
