3. Probably too many targets. Photos seem to show coordinated rocket launches.

Israel has been trying to interdict Iranian arms shipments so Hamas could not amass a critically high number of missiles and rockets that could, if closely coordinated in launch times, overwhelm the Iron Dome and other AA systems. While Israeli air strikes into Syria and elsewhere took out some supply, no doubt Hamas used very small shipments of a few rockets at a time loaded in with whatever other non military trade goods and did so for months and years to establish the stockpile they used. It would be interesting to know how many projectiles were fired and how many were intercepted and how many hit a likely intended target. Short of Israel invading and permanently occupying Hamas held Palestinian territory, this will likely happen again.
