We're right around the point where the NJ court ruled that he could be replaced (despite the deadline in the law)... so every day closer would make it harder and harder to accomplish (assuming Menendez would drop out of course).

I'm not sure whether or not they amended the law after 2002... but early voting has already started in NJ. I don't think that was an option in 2002. So it may already be too late.
