12. While I was at the library recently,

Two women passed behind me. The one I'd always thought better of was saying sympathetically to the other, "Yes, I know. He's not white like us, is he?"

Now this is such a whistle stop town that there are no black people around - who'd be stupid enough to come here? - and the only black man the locals ever complain about because he's almost the only one they know at all, is - wait for it! - that man in their WH. I was so disappointed in both women, but especially the one I'd thought was a little better sort.
