I feel another letter to the newspaper coming on.

In order to make sure I don't even accidentally borrow too closely, what I do is to read an article, note the source, and then turn away to write my impression of the original, noting something in the manner of: "As I read in a fine article on __________ written by _______ , etc." and give a shortened account as well as my praises for the original.

I know that makes it legal, and I trust it's well inside the moral realm as well.
