I find a laptop to be about a million times more productive than a phone. AND you never run out of storage, because you can use an external drive, thumb drive or SD card.

Away from home? The phone, made for tiny fingers, can serve as a wireless hot spot on most plans.

Wait! There's more! You can (still) download apps to the laptop without going through Apple's "store". I favor free and open source apps, and since boatloads of programmers use macs, almost all of them are easy installs. I use Gimp for image editing, Libre Office, and so on. Just make sure to get the real thing (real app) and not one from some janky "download site".

Too many fine apps to list here so ask anytime for recommendations.
