(64 posts)It makes me want to stand up straight and tall, throw my shoulders back, and proudly proclaim that things like this and the first shots of the Civil War, make MY STATE, the absolute BEST STATE in the Union!
In reality, I am so ashamed to be associated with these Nazi Brownshirts. The one thing that does give me hope, is the fact that I am now coming into contact with so many more Progressives than I ever imagined were living here. Being a huge retirement community, my home (Beaufort) is becoming more purple than red. I happen to live in a carved out section of town that actually is in the 6th Congressional District, represented by Jim Clyburn. Most of our County is in the 1st Congressional District, formerly represented by such loathsome individuals as Mark Sanford and Joe (You Lie!) Wilson. Nancy Mace is the current Representative there, but prior to her, Democrat Joe Cunningham was elected and served a 2 year term. I am encouraged at the progress that I see at the grass roots level here. Unfortunately, old, white, uptight, not so bright, men, are still in control of the State Senate and State House.
When is the DNC going to stop engineering Presidential candidates and start concentrating on these Statewide elections like the rethugs did 30 years ago when Bill Clinton got elected? These State Elections are now even more critical as the USSC has re-empowered the State's Rights crowd. If we are not going to expand the USSC, then the only way that we are going to be able to have our voices heard in any meaningful way, will be to start taking over State Legislatures. Protests are good, but the net gain is usually not very impactful. We Democrats are going to have to start playing by the same rules that the rethugs use. Use their very tactics to overtake them. After all, there are more of us than there are of them.
