Mount Vernon Bookkeeper Charged With Stealing Nearly $150K From Employer [View all]
WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. - A woman is facing a felony charge after allegedly stealing nearly $150,000 from her Westchester employer when she served as a bookkeeper.
Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino announced on Friday that 50-year-old Sande Steelberg of Mount Vernon has been arraigned on a felony count of second-degree grand larceny for allegedly stealing $142,482 from SECS, Inc. in Mount Vernon.
According to Scarpino, while serving as the head bookkeeper at SECS, a company which manufactures precision equipment for airlines and other industries, Steelberg is alleged to have written as many as 90 checks made payable to herself, which were never recorded in the companys books.
Scarpino said that she is further alleged to have cashed those checks or deposited them into a personal bank account, beginning in 2014. Steelberg was arrested on Thursday after a warrant was issued for her arrest for failing to appear in court earlier this year.
