After Facebook post, state officials condemn Daniel Loeb [View all]
Top state officials on Friday condemned a Facebook comment from wealthy hedge fund manager and major political donor Daniel Loeb in which he said the state Senate Democratic minority leader, who is African-American, has done more damage to people of color than anyone who has ever donned a hood.
Loebs comment, an apparent reference to the Ku Klux Klan, accompanied a link to a New York Times story about a remark that Senate Democratic Conference Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins made during a meeting with Gov. Andrew Cuomo and other Democrats last month. At that meeting, Stewart-Cousins, who represents portions of Westchester County, reportedly offered a retort to the governors suggestion that her members didnt understand suburban concerns.
You look at me, Mr. Governor, but you dont see me, the Times reported her as saying. You see my black skin and a woman, but you dont realize I am a suburban legislator.
Those comments came in the context of Cuomo suggesting that Senate Independent Democratic Conference Leader Jeff Klein, D-Bronx, had a better understanding of the suburbs. The eight-member IDC splintered off from the main Democratic body in 2011 and are currently partnered with the chambers Republicans.
