Groups demand removal of 'political' state shutdown signs with top Democrat's photo [View all]

TRENTON -- After the start of the state government shutdown Saturday, Gov. Chris Christie sought to ensure one man, state Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto, became the target of public wrath.

He called it the "speaker's shutdown." And his administration printed, distributed and posted 500 signs on state government facilities across the state announcing "This facility is closed because of this man."

Prieto (D-Hudson), with a grin and his trademark, black mustache, appears above.

Christie readily admitted during a news conference Saturday that his office was behind the signs.
