5. Exclusive representation clauses

Nearly every union contract has an exclusive representation clause that gives the union the exclusive right to bargain. In many cases, this is intended to keep rival unions out, but also has the effect of not allowing individual employees to bargain for themselves.

If the union feels like not having to represent freeloaders, they need to eliminate the exclusive representation clauses from all contracts.
