3. What surge? In 2018 we held onto state executive seats and turned the House.

Smith won her special election. There was no net change in our U.S. House representation. Klobuchar won precincts that went for Trump. it's not a walk in the park, but there's no "GOP surge" here, either.

The article itself was yet another preoccupation with fence-sitters in rural areas and focusing on red "counties" rather than populations. It actually says "The small towns and broad stretches of fertile farmland west of those cities are traditionally conservative." Fertile farmland doesn't vote.
