9. The south metro is exploding with development

Lakeville, Apple Valley, Rosemount and Farmington are all putting in new developments left and right.

Apple Valley has good access to the metro via Cedar/77 and a new bus line. Lakeville has good access via Highway 35.

If it were closer, I'd recommend Northfield (great liberal college town vibe), but that's right at the 1 hour commuting distance.
