1. You want to see a very strict estate tax look at Nebraska.

We just went through it with my husband's Dad and it was horrible. He didn't own any property, this is what I think the law was in place to tax, but he had enough in his various accounts for his retirement that it was terrible. It took us over a year to figure it out. We finally broke down and paid a lawyer a ton of the proceeds to get it right.

I agree that there needs to be something in place to make sure really wealthy people get slammed but the money in Dad's accounts were earmarked to help his 9 grandchildren come out of college without a ton of debt. If I remember correctly it cost almost a third of it in taxes and legal fees. Not to mention dealing with his step children who were the spawn of satan.

Thankfully we won't have much to leave anyone so there won't be anything to fret about.
