Eight Democrats vying to be next state party chair [View all]

Numerous candidates are vying to be the next chairperson of the Iowa Democratic Party, and they’ll have several opportunities to distinguish themselves over the next few weeks.

Eight Iowa Democrats have signaled their desire to head the state party in a role that could be crucial to its future in the wake of resounding defeats up and down the ballot in 2016.

They include outgoing state Senate Democratic Leader Mike Gronstal, former candidates Bob Krause and Kim Weaver, political consultant Derek Eadon, Bernie Sanders presidential campaign organizer Blair Lawton, and party activists Sandy Dockendorff, Kurt Meyer and Julie Stauch.

The incumbent chairwoman, Andy McGuire, has announced she will not seek a second term.
