I went into this thinking I would vote for Preckwinkle. Chicago’s a big place with a lot of moving parts, and I thought she could bring large government experience together with attention to our chronically underserved communities. I still think she could. She’s smart and she knows the ropes and the hoods.

In fact, my husband and I ran into her last fall and encouraged her to run.

But then came that Burke stuff. And I’m a bit conflicted. On the one hand, I understand that if a woman, and especially a black woman, wanted to gain any power in this city she had to play ball with the big boys to some extent. I’m not naive. On the other hand, it bothers me a bit.

One thing that doesn’t bother me about her is that stupid soda tax thing. I was all for it.

So I don’t know yet. I’m leaning between her and Vallas, though I’m not really all that keen on him.

I can’t really see voting for any of the others, for various reasons.
