Or a pro wrestling manager. Generally, this happens because A) The real name is long and hard to pronounce (John Lobodubek became "Johnny Lobo" at Riverside Park, orB), as NASCAR Modified legend "Bugs Stevens" was born Carl Steven Berghman, took a nickname when he raced while in the Army (big no no). Berghman had become "Bugman" alreadyin the barracks. Phil Walters raced under his real name at Le Mans, but went by "Ted Tappet" when he drove midgets around NYC.
I hope that Gov. Otter's surname is a result of Native American heritage. Too many of the Eastern tribes had their clan names stripped away or abandoned "to prevent trouble".
